Defining / non defining



The Relative clauses can be introduced by:

A relative pronoun: who (whom), which, that, whose
A non-relative pronoun: where, why and when instead of a relative pronoun.


You need to consider the following when you decide that relative pronoun you use:

Is the subject or object or possessive form part of a clause on?
It refers to a person or a thing?
Is the relative clause "defining or non-defining"?

Note: The Relative clauses are used often both in English and spoken escrito.Hay a tendency to use non-defning relative clauses in writing, rather than English spoken.

Defining Relative Clauses
